Togliatti Hospital Project

The purpose of the partnership project "Reducing Hospital Acquired Infection in Togliatti" is to assist the hospital staff in a reduction of the risk of infections in hospitals by the transfer of laboratory resources from environmental sampling to meeting clinical needs. The change in emphasis within the laboratory services will allow for the rapid diagnosis of infections and more targeted treatment regimens, thereby improving the quality of health care provision.

Infections are the chief cause of death and diseases in even the most sophisticated of societies and the microbes that cause them do not recognise geographical or political boundaries. In the world that we now all inhabit we need to acknowledge that such problems are rarely unique and that only by sharing our knowledge as efficiently as we share our infections, can we begin to understand and eventually overcome many of them.
