This past Sunday, our runners at the Big Half in London managed to raise over £1,039 for our OpenDoors project in support of Ukrainian and Afghan refugees in London. We are beyond proud of each and every one of our runners for not only finishing this run but also beating personal best results!
We would like to share with you the story of one of our runners, Anna:
Anna came to England with her three children from Ukraine 3 months ago.
"It was not easy for me to make such a difficult decision in order to leave my home, work, friends and loved ones in Ukraine, my usual life and come to another country. But I take into account the situation that is taking place in Ukraine today, and the fact that it is unsafe for me and my children to be in Ukraine, I decided to leave Ukraine in order to give my children the opportunity to live in a safe place".
Finding out about HealthProm through our outreach to Ukrainian refugees, she became interested in the idea of participating in the Big Half. She says:
"Sport plays an important role in my life and the life of my children. Sport disciplines, helps to cope with stress, organizes both adults and children. Previously, I took part in running events in Odessa, but this is my old dream - to participate in such a large-scale event - to run a half marathon in London!!! And being in the UK now, I could not pass by this event🙂🙂🙂"
Anna finished with a personal best time this weekend, improving on her times from back home. The strength of this woman does not stop impressing us all.
Lastly, Anna asked us to share this:
"I appeal to everyone who has the opportunity to participate in any degree, and to provide any assistance to the fund-organizer of this event. After all, together we are POWER!!! EVERYTHING WILL BE UKRAINE!!!💙💛"
