We are delighted to announce that HealthProm has been awarded £20,000 in funding to launch our new Skills and Employment Hub for Migrant and Refugee Women in Camden and Islington.

The project will support refugee and migrant women from Afghanistan, Ukraine and other communities to develop new skills, build confidence and access employment, education, entrepreneurship and volunteering opportunities.

Over the next 15 months, the Hub will provide a welcoming and supportive space where women can access a range of practical activities and support, including:

  • English for Employment learning
  • Jobs and Digital Support Drop-In sessions
  • Employment and entrepreneurship workshops
  • Peer support groups led by refugees
  • Opportunities to build supportive networks and connections

The project has been developed in response to feedback from women in our community, many of whom have told us about the barriers they face when looking for work in the UK. These include limited English language skills, a lack of confidence with job applications and interviews, limited digital skills and challenges balancing employment with caring responsibilities.

HealthProm has been supporting Afghan refugees since 2021 and Ukrainian refugees since the start of the war in Ukraine in 2022. During this time, we have supported more than 2,000 Ukrainians, alongside more than 200 Afghan refugees, through a range of education, wellbeing, mental health, employment and community activities.

Through the new Skills and Employment Hub, we will bring women from different backgrounds together to learn from one another, share their experiences and skills, and build confidence and connections within their local communities.

A key part of the project will be ensuring that women themselves continue to shape the support available. Many of our beneficiaries are already volunteering, sharing their skills and helping others in their communities. The new Hub will build on this strength by creating more opportunities for women to support one another while developing their own skills and confidence.

We are incredibly excited to begin this new chapter of our work and look forward to welcoming women from across Camden and Islington to the Skills and Employment Hub.

Together, we hope to create new opportunities, stronger community connections and greater confidence for migrant and refugee women as they build their lives in the UK.

The project will run from 1 September 2026 until 31 December 2027.
