HealthProm was delighted to welcome the Young Grant Makers team from Islington Giving to our Gateway to Education and Social Integration project this week.
The visit brought together former Young Grant Makers and young people participating in HealthProm’s programme, creating an opportunity to share experiences, discuss the issues affecting young people in Islington, and explore how young people can play a greater role in decisions about their communities.
Giving young people a voice
Islington Giving’s Young Grant Makers programme puts decision-making power directly into the hands of young people. Since 2018, the programme has enabled young Islington residents to help decide how funding should be spent on youth services and projects in the borough. The programme gives participants the opportunity to develop new skills, learn about grant making and, importantly, influence decisions about issues that matter to them.
During the visit, former Young Grant Makers spoke with HealthProm’s young people about their own experiences of taking part in the programme and introduced the 2026/27 Young Grant Makers opportunity.
Our young people were also invited to share their perspectives on the challenges facing young people in Islington. They discussed the changes they would like to see in their communities and the types of activities, opportunities and services that could make a positive difference to young people’s lives.
Listening to young people
The conversation was an important opportunity for our young people to share their experiences and ideas in a space where their views were listened to and valued.
At HealthProm, we believe that young people should have meaningful opportunities to participate in decisions that affect their lives. Building confidence, encouraging participation and creating opportunities for young people to contribute to their communities are an important part of our work through the Gateway to Education and Social Integration project.
We are particularly pleased to see our partnership with Islington Giving extend beyond funding to create opportunities for young people to engage directly with questions about their communities and their futures.
HealthProm was awarded £24,915 from Islington Giving to support our Gateway to Education and Social Integration for Young People project, helping young people access education, build confidence and strengthen their connections within their communities.
