Taina was displaced due to the invasion of Ukraine and arrived in the UK shortly after. She has been an active member of HealthProm since first discovering our services. Read about her life in London and involvement in HealthProm in her own words.
Many Ukrainians left Ukraine and found refuge in various countries after the Russian military attack on February 22, 2022.
My daughter and I came to London under the "Homes for Ukraine" scheme in April 2022.
We have been living with sponsors for more than a year.
I am an active language learner at Islington Adult Community Learning (IACL) and ICE English School London. Despite my desire for employment, the imperfect command of the language made this process difficult.
HealthProm provides multifaceted support to people, including Ukrainians. At one of the meetings, Elena Salomon [Ukrainian Project Assistant] advised me to volunteer. On that day, I applied to VAI, registered and after a few weeks I started volunteering at Voluntary Action Islington+HealthProm.
I am grateful to everyone who helped me in this. I managed to realize the need for professional activity; help other people in finding volunteering; to contribute to the life of the community that accepted us and opened the doors of their homes and their hearts.
I have a great opportunity to work alongside a friendly team of professionals. This volunteer role allows me to improve my skills and acquire new ones. I have completed the “Skills” training, and since September 2023 I have been studying “ADVOCACY” courses, I continue to improve my English language skills.
I constantly feel the attention of Islington Council, the care of Natalia Beley, Refugee Resettlement Officer and her colleagues from the Homes and Neighborhoods Department, starting from organizing various events for Ukrainians to solving problems. Natalia Beley helps with advice: corrects my CV, recommends whom to contact when looking for work and housing. It is so nice that people sincerely help you.
This is my short story of life in London. I am grateful to everyone I met along the way for their understanding, help and experience.

Після військового нападу росії 22 лютого 2022 багато українців залишили Україну та знайшли прихисток у різних країнах світу.
Ми з дочкою приїхали у Лондон по схемі “Homes for Ukraine” у квітні 2022 року.
Більше року ми проживаємо у спонсорів. Я активно вивчаю мову у Islington Adult Community Learning (IACL). Не дивлячись на велике бажання працевлаштування, недосконале володіння мовою ускладнило цей процес. На одній із зустрічей в організації HealtrhProm, яка надає різностороню підтримку людям, в тому числі українцям Elena Salomon мені порадили зайнятися волонтерством. В цей день я звернулася у VAI, зареєструвалася і вже через декілька тижнів почала волонтерити у Voluntary Action Islington+HealthProm.
Я вдячна кожному хто мені допоміг в цьому. Мені вдалося реалізувати потребу у професійній діяльності; допомагати іншим людям у пошуку волонтерства; робити свій внесок у життя громади, яка прийняла нас, відкрила двері своїх домівок і свої серця.
Я маю прекрасну можливість працювати поруч з дружною командою професіоналів. Ця волонтерська роль дозволяє мені удосконалювати мої навички та отримувати нові. Я пройшла тренінг “Skills”, з вересня 2023 навчаюся на курсах ADVOCACY, продовжую удосконалювати свій рівень володіння англійською мовою.
Я постійно відчуваю увагу Islington Council, турботу Natalia Beley, Refugee Resettlement Officer та її колег з Homes and Neighbourhoods Department починаючи з організації різних заходів для українців до вирішення проблем.
